What is Hollr?
Hollr is a platform that brings social interaction to popular content and e-commerce websites. We’re currently a browser extension that lets you share your favorites and get your friends’ recommendations from YouTube, Netflix, Amazon, and various news sites/blogs.
83% of people completely or somewhat trust the recommendations of friends and family when it comes to purchases, a.k.a spending money. Similar logic applies to spending time (watching a movie, reading a book). Yet, word of mouth is still infrequent and incredibly inefficient. We aim to modernize the recommendation process to allow people to make informed decisions with the help of those they trust.
What’s next for your team?
We’re now in beta (open to anyone). Check it out at joinhollr.com. This means we’re currently focused entirely on collecting feedback and improving the user experience. In the near future, we’ll likely be developing a mobile app so that we can reach a wider audience.
Once we achieve success in one or two domains (e-commerce, streaming, etc.) we will expand to other forms of recommendations as well, including restaurants, music, etc.
What the team has and what they are looking for:
Alex, Sahit, and Dhruv are Stanford undergrads (’23) working with Sean Ye (UCSD ’23) and Griffin Davis (UT Dallas ‘23). We’ve got a great team and are actively looking for full-stack and front-end developers with experience in React and/or React Native. If you’re at all interested in what we’re doing, feel free to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org — we’d love to hear from you.
In the meantime, visit joinhollr.com and download the extension to start discovering your friends’ favorites!
Alex is a pilot and has promised to take the whole Hollr team on a flight one day.
